Throw-down Madison-Reed VS Alterna Caviar Shampoo and Conditioner

I want to say that truly there are no losers in this battle because both products are amazing but I have a clear favorite for sure and trust me, I was open minded going into this!

If you are a regular reader of my blog you know that I am in love with all things Madison-Reed, probably to the point of being sick of hearing about it. You also know, however, that I am in love with Caviar CC Cream from Alterna and can’t go a day without it! Well, I finally got my hands on some Alterna Caviar Shampoo and Conditioner in a 500 point Sephora VIB Set. I was tentative to put the two lines up against one another because the fact is, I love them both! However, I had to know! I had to test both over the course of a week each and just find out once and for all, who reigns supreme.

Here they are looking innocent and unassuming of the battle to come, in my bathroom shower. (I did not select this wall paper!)

Both products do something wonderful that no other products have done for me before. They do not build up, they make my hair super soft, tangle free, silky, and shiny. While I can’t attest to the anti-aging properties of the Alterna product I do not doubt that it exists, but I would assume I need more than a week’s worth of use to see these results, unless my hair is aging super fast, in which case I probably have other issues to be concerned with! Madison-Reed does have the color protectant in it which is good since my hair is color treated but I would also gamble to assume that the Caviar shampoo and conditioner are color safe as well. Still, we had to have a winner because I need to know where to spend my money, and I do like being loyal to a brand. I need to also attest to the fact that I had been using Madison-Reed for a while now, happily, but I also use the Alterna Caviar CC Cream daily as well every time I wash my hair, so as you can see, this is why my curiosity about the Alterna shampoo and conditioner was so strong. In a sense, it would be cool to use the entire Alterna line, on the other hand I love the Madison-Reed company, their customer service is excellent plus I get a lot of referral credits, making most of my hair care needs from Madison-Reed for free. I promise you though, this has had no effect on my decision here! I had reasons to love and want both to “win”.
So here is what it came down to:
Alterna Caviar Anti-Aging Shampoo and Conditioner:

2 Point – Husband made a comment that my hair smelled good.
1 Point – Hair was shiny, silky, and tangle free.
1 Point – Free of Sulfates and a lot of nasty things.
1 Point – Trusted Brand, Good Online Shop

-1 Point – While using product felt strange in my hair, made almost a chemical type aroma, even though it smelled good after.
-1 Point Price 32.00 per 8.5 ounce bottle!
Total Points = 3
Madison-Reed Nourishing Color Enhancing Shampoo and Conditioner:

1 Point – Wonderful aroma, which husband also has commented on in the past but I think he grew accustomed to it.
1 Point – Hair was shiny, silky, and tangle free.
2 Points – All natural ingredients.
2 Point – Good Online shop, referral points system.
1 Point – Excellent, personal, customer service.
1 Point – Price 29.95 for a set of shampoo and conditioner 8 ounces each and when you have credit from the referral system it is even less. Also they offer discounts often such as the most recent 40% off the set!
1 Point – My hair is much fuller, bouncy, and just full of life in comparison to the Caviar system which left my hair rather flat.
Absolutely none
Total Points = 9
We have a clear winner here and yes I am an affiliate with Madison-Reed but I am by no means under ANY obligation to write this post, and in fact, I am getting no compensation for this post unless of course you click through my affiliate link. I am writing this based solely on my personal experience with these products, and as I said, I absolutely LOVE the Alterna CC Cream and really suggest you try it! Even though it is expensive a little bit goes a long way! I seriously use it after each and every hair wash, and also in between before styling, especially when using a flat iron! Alterna has something good here too, and maybe your hair is different from my own, and maybe Alterna would be better for you, but for me, I am sticking with Madison-Reed for my shampoo and conditioner needs and will keep buying the Alterna Caviar CC Cream for styling, heat protection, and overall hair health.
