Disclosure: I received product and or payment. I only write about products and brands I believe in and trust. I am very particular about what I feed my pets so you know if it is on my blog, it is of excellent quality.

Darwin's Natural Raw Pet Food

When I first heard about feeding my cats a raw diet I was hesitant.

So many thoughts and concerns came to mind.

Would my cats tolerate a raw diet? How expensive would it be to keep my cats on a raw diet if they loved it?

Those two things were the first concerns.

To answer those concerns, if you also have them:

I was surprised to find out that not only do I end up saving money on food for my cats by feeding them a raw diet, I also save money on litter!

When it comes to how well your cat will tolerate a raw diet there are a few things to consider:

Like people, all cats are different.

Some cats will take to it right away and some need to be slowly introduced to it.

It is always best to start out slow so their bodies and metabolism can adapt.

Ultimately raw food is better for your pets.

From my experience, I could not slow Tibet down from chowing her Darwin’s! She is a true wild cat!

Nub, well he was a bit more hesitant but after a few days, he was demanding his Darwin’s!

Before I tell you more of my cat’s experience let’s take a closer look at Darwin’s and what a raw food diet is all about:

  • Aside from rave customer reviews and endorsements from veterinarians Darwin’s uses only the freshest possible meat from the United States. They are formulated to meet or exceed AAFCO nutritional guidelines.
  • It’s grain-free, gluten-free, cage-free, no fillers, complete and balanced.
  • Darwin’s offers a prescription line for pets with certain health issues.
  • The meals include important trace minerals, sea salt and vitamins from natural sources so they are easier to digest. Mineral mixes are specifically tailored to each meat type.
  • All Darwin’s meals are formulated to balance critical fats Omega 6 and 3 fatty acids.

Tibet became instantly infatuated with Darwin’s before I could open the box!

Her pose in the images above was not staged.

I walked away to get my box cutter and found her right on top of the box striking a pose!

Granted all cats love all boxes but her curiosity continued.

I know she could smell what was to come!

Darwin's raw natural real food for your pet

I am really happy that we switched to raw with our cats.

It is just far more natural to their instincts and what they systems need.

Our cats love Darwin’s and I love doing what is best for my cats.

They are more playful but even eating their meals seems like playtime now.

You should see them simply devour their food!

Their coats are beautiful and healthier, activity levels higher, and they are bright eyed and alert!

On a side note: Darwin’s participates in a recycling program!

They include a posted paid label for return of their boxes to be reused in future orders.

Just another thing to love about Darwin’s.

Every concern I had initially was dispelled completely.

I am a true believer now!

If you think about it, it just makes sense.

Animals are natural hunters.

They crave and need raw diets.

Aweee give him snuggles for me please! I bet he is GORGEOUS! The cool thing is you can start him out on a great diet now and never have to worry if you are not feeding him the best!

This is really good for cats who crave a raw diet. My Tibet thrives on it!

I don’t have a kitty, but if I did I would totally try this brand out. My mom has a picky cat, but maybe she would love this.

    • July 26, 2017 / 1:04 am

Oh she sure might! Often cats are picky eaters because their instincts call for raw food!

    • July 26, 2017 / 1:04 am

Oh thank you for telling her about this! I was just giving our Tibet a little more a bit ago. She just LOVES it!! Nub enjoys it but Tibet gets RAVENOUS! LOL She makes the same sound when eating it that she does when she finds one of my hair ties or a beetle in the house! It’s this strange feral squall that alerts us she has caught something! I know that sounds freaky haha but it’s a really good thing! It shows us how much she loves it. Let me know if your daughter makes the switch please and what she or her cat in this case thinks of Darwin’s !

  3. July 26, 2017 / 5:21 am

Wow! That almost looks better than what I had for dinner last night. Looks like a great way to treat your pet!

  4. July 26, 2017 / 8:30 am

It is so nice to make sure that your pet is getting everything he or she needs from the food that you give them. I think this is a lovely brand and it’s definitely worth a try! There’s just so much to look forward to from this box filled with goodness!

Thank you Carol and yes indeed there is much goodness in the box that we receive from Darwin’s!

    • July 26, 2017 / 2:50 pm

Thank you so much Tonya! You have such an inspiring blog! I am learning so much from you. Tibet is a true carnivore! Both cats love Darwin’s but Tibet is absolutely in love with it.

Looks like a great product! We just adopted two rescue cats, and the foster recommended some healthy options. She said there are so many health problems related to a lot of the processed cat foods on the market. While we find that we spend a lot more on cat food, I really think our cats are a lot healthier, even compared to our past cat. We had bought some grain free foods in the past, but we could have done a lot better.

Bless your hearts for adopting rescue cats!! The foster is right. Yes excellent pet food costs more but you will spend way less in vet bills in the long run. I am like you and could have done better for my pets earlier on.

  6. July 26, 2017 / 12:11 pm

I don’t have any cats but I have in the past. The litter box was always the worst thing when it came to caring for them. We switched my dog to a grain free diet almost a year ago and we haven’t looked back.

Indeed the more pure the diet the less waste! The less waste the less frustrating the litter box!

This food looks so fresh and perfect for my pets! I had never heard of Darwin before, thank you for sharing!

    • July 26, 2017 / 2:30 pm

Indeed it truly is a pet food company that LOVES our pets almost as much as we do!

  8. July 26, 2017 / 4:18 pm

Our mom still hasn’t taken the plunge to try raw food with us. The more we hear about it, the more we think we need to try it. Thanks for a great review.

    • July 26, 2017 / 10:54 pm

You are so welcome. Please tell your mom that you won’t know until you try. I will say that Nub – he enjoys it very much and gobbles it all up but Tibet – oh boy she just goes BONKERS for Darwin’s Raw Pet Food and I know I will have to continue to order or they may call in the cat union rep!

  9. July 26, 2017 / 4:28 pm

Happy to hear your cats adjusted nicely to the new raw food diet. Yes, it is so much better than dry kibble. I like that Darwins offers home delivery for such an affordable price and also tailors to cats with special nutrition requirements.

    • July 26, 2017 / 10:53 pm

Thank you Kamira. Indeed it is great to be able to let them know your cats needs and diet requirements.

  10. July 26, 2017 / 6:06 pm

No cat here 🙁 although I did have 3 of them when living in Israel and it amazes me daily how much things have changed since then for cats, WOW.

I have the old lady Layla LOL, she gets cooked food as raw disagreed with her tummy big time and with her aging am sticking to what is working for her, plus to her cooked food I add the Pre-Mix Macanna from Grandma Lucy which is grain free, organic and made in California.

    • July 26, 2017 / 10:52 pm

I think it is wonderful that you took the time to find the best for your pet and her needs. Layla is a lovely pup and she has a great pet mama in you!

  11. July 26, 2017 / 8:10 pm

I don’t feed raw or homemade food for my girls. that doesn’t mean I may decide to do it a future time. Darwin’s sounds like a food I should consider if I decide to try raw feeding.

I hear you and I did not before Darwin’s either. I will say this – I know I am going to HAVE to keep ordering because if I do not there may be a problem! Nub likes it A LOT and eats it all up but Tibet, she just goes BONKERS for it! She may revolt if I run out!

  12. July 26, 2017 / 9:28 pm

It’s wonderful to learn about your personal experience feeding raw to your cat. I’m happy to read that it was a great experience for you…and for Tibet, too! Yum! Yum!

  13. July 27, 2017 / 9:25 am

One of my cats is being tested this summer for food intolerance. Our veterinarian has suggested the option of a raw diet. I’ll keep Darwin’s in mind!

    • July 27, 2017 / 3:00 pm

I do hope that everything comes out good with your cat and that she is well. I have heard a lot of amazing things about how raw food has helped pets. So many pets DO have allergies to the stuff in bagged foods.

  14. July 27, 2017 / 10:27 am

I heard many good things about Darwins. Not available here. But we do have some good Canadian choices I’m happy with.

    • July 27, 2017 / 2:58 pm

Oh Jana I am so happy there is a good raw food for your pets there in Canada!

    • July 27, 2017 / 2:57 pm

Exactly and the better we feed them the better chance at this they have. Thank you Terri!

  15. July 28, 2017 / 2:26 am

I never tried feeding my cats with raw food but it does have many benefits. I will give it a try. One of my cats is quite picky with food but we’ll see how it goes. Thanks for the recommendation 🙂

    • July 31, 2017 / 11:19 am

Thank you for giving it a try Monika! I would love to hear what they thought of it. It is so healthy for them.

    • July 31, 2017 / 11:31 am

Isn’t it! We are all so busy these days so it helps to get the best pet food delivered!

  16. August 2, 2017 / 8:05 am

I may have to try this type of diet with my cats. I’m always looking for ways to improve their health. Especially if I can save money.

    • August 2, 2017 / 12:32 pm

Indeed Katherine. Their little lives are so precious we need to do the best by them that we can!
