All Men Are Pigs, Change The Stigma!

This is not true! Yet so many women give men an “out” by generalizing them. Men can be gentle, kind, empowering, and emotional, and yes even with all these rather “female” traits, they can still be MEN.

When women stop saying men are pigs, as a form of acceptance of men acting like pigs, men will have to start living up to women’s expectations of them being better humans.

All Men Are Pigs, Change The Stigma!

Now, I am not saying it is women’s responsibility to guide men in how to act properly. By no means does that fall upon our shoulders alone, but for as long as I can remember I have heard women excuse men behaving like pigs with comments ranging from “Boys will be boys”, to “That’s a man for you.”

I get it, ladies, we throw our hands up in the air sometimes, and tossing out a phrase like the above along without hands is just our way of reconciling that yes, some men, are pigs.
Women my age and older have been saying men are pigs in disgust for decades but what is really scary is that today’s younger generation of women seem to accept male piggish behavior even more as a norm than women my age do. At times, and I have witnessed this personally, younger women encourage men to behave like pigs.

Young women of today seem to encourage this behavior and even join in on making crude comments either toward or about their fellow females.

One reason younger women tend to do this is to fit in, to be one of the guys, and be accepted as “cool”. Which is attached to a second reason, and that is some of these women are lacking in self-esteem. Young women seeking male approval and acceptance fail to stand up to male crudeness and dismiss it, possibly because they have learned from women they looked up to that “men are pigs” and have come to accept it.

Parents, encourage your young daughters to take pride in being female. Teach them that this rude behavior by men is unacceptable.

Stop accepting the “Boys will be boys” mentality so that your daughters will never take it as “the norm”.

Stop accepting “Locker Room Talk” because locker room talk, when and where it exists, should stay in the locker room!

Parents, raise your young men to be gentlemen. If we train and raise our sons to be respectful toward women then the societal norm that men are pigs can change.

I am not wearing blinders, women will always complain about men, and men will always say things women are not pleased with.

On the other hand, I have known some women who talk like sailors, and there are men who complain about women. We are human and we will forever have our male / female issues.

With our reality show mentalities, social media safety nets, and television having no boundaries, we are desensitized to nearly everything.

People feel they can get away with saying anything without thinking first, and sadly, many people do get away with saying anything. People just seem to think what they say will never catch up with them. Sadly again, this is becoming frighteningly true.

Perhaps this crude and rude, say what you want, when you want, to whoever you want mentality will catch on in the future allowing a man to go into a job interview and tell the potential female boss her short skirt is exciting him. Let’s just say if it gets that far, I’ll have to drop out of the human race and live in a cabin in the woods.

We have to change things!

We have to be mindful of what we say, what we do, and how we react to those who are rude, insulting and belittling of women. By the same token ladies, we have to be mindful of what we say about men! Yes, sometimes we are responsible for the way men act.

The more we normalize something, the more of our reality it will become.

I am not saying we as women should stop being beautiful, sexy, or even sexual! We have a right to feel all of those things and be all of those things. Wearing a low cut top by no means gives a man a “right” to treat us like whores.

On a personal level, I do think some of our stars of today wear a little too little and I often do wish there was a different level of class to today’s red carpet fashions. That, however, is an entirely different article!

Parents, teach your daughters that joining in, or being accepting of male crudeness is not a way to gain their acceptance, approval, or their respect. They will not be viewed as cool, and they will never truly be one of the guys. At the time they sure may feel that they are getting attention, and they are, but it is certainly not the type of attention they should want.

And for us older ladies, those of us who have been there and done that, seen it all, heard it all and probably said it all … let’s all stop using burnt out old phrases like “boys will be boys” and “men are pigs” and start demanding men be respectful, and that they behave like gentlemen.

Men, if you are reading this, thank you, I hope that you consider your daughters or future daughters, while doing so.

I know that there are real men out there who respect women, and if you have one of those men, stand by him because it appears they are becoming few and far between. I for one am sure glad I am married to a gentleman.

Ladies sound off! What do you think? Are all men pigs or no?
