Every woman deserves a good wardrobe but what items are the timeless pieces that every woman should have?
This article was going to be just about that. An article telling you what top 5 items you should have, but it wasn't that simple!
First, I nixed the typical LLB (Little Black Dress). I did so for many logical reasons.
1. It is played out.
2. Not every woman wears dresses.
3. Not every woman desires to wear sexy exposing fashions.
4. Not every woman wants to wear black.
5. A LBB does not fit into every woman's lifestyle.
Right there is where I realized writing an article telling you what you should have in your wardrobe was very wrong. It is not for me to assume your sense of style, or your lifestyle. When I started Fashion Beyond Forty, my aim was not to tell you what's in fashion so much as to give you confidence to explore your own sense of fashion. I also did not start Fashion Beyond Forty to be only about clothing.
You may have noticed the quote from Coco Chanel I placed on my header of the blog.
"Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening."
That is exactly what the aim of my blog is about, and why articles such as "The Top 5 Items You Need in Your Wardrobe" are almost insulting.
That is why I titled this article The Top 5 Items Every Woman Needs in Her Wardrobe ... NOT!
I am sure any midlife woman can appreciate ending a sentence with NOT! If you do not relate to that you may be too young and that is okay too!
All I can tell you are MY top five must have items and why. I can suggest items to you, and I often do in other posts, but what I can not do is tell you what you "should" have! Who you are, where you work, how you spend your free time, that is what determines what you "should" have in your closet.
Granted no one can beat a pair of cozy, comfortable shoes, and yes as someone who has worked at her own self image, I would prefer your comfy, cozy shoes are somewhat stylish, but hey if you like kicking around in beat up loafers from the 80's that is your right to do so.
I will say EVERY woman should have a well made, pair of quality denim jeans that fits you perfectly. For me those jeans are from Kut From The Kloth. No I am not affiliate with Kut From the Kloth, I just love the way their jeans fit me.
If you work in an office I would say one of your must have items is a pencil skirt, but then we all know pencil skirts fit some figures wonderfully, and some not so much. I personally have no need for a pencil skirt, especially as one of my top 5 must haves!
So instead of telling you what you should be wearing I will tell you what my personal top five are! I invite you to share with me, and the other people reading my blog what your top five favorites are in the comments below!
Joely's Top Five Must Have Wardrobe Items:
1. A pair of super well fitting comfy jeans. Not well fitting as in fitted, but the kind of jeans that make you feel like your wearing a cloud of butter! That is what I like in a pair of jeans! My favorite jeans come from Kut from the Kloth as I mentioned above, plus their sizes run big so I can size down! Can't beat that!
