In our home, water is called "life juice", our entire family is crazy about water. I know a lot of people struggle to get their daily water intake each day. I have even seen people set goals for their daily water intake, or measure how much water they are drinking. No one in my family needs to do this. If anything we get waterlogged haha. We just suck it up and soak it up constantly. It is rare to see any of us without a bottle of water by our side, and I never leave home without a bottle of water in my tote, ever!
I know that there are a lot of people who worry about bottled water exposing us to toxins but it is quite simple...buy water that is bottled in BPA free bottles, and do not leave your bottled water out in the sun too long, and never leave water sitting in your car. Outside of that I do not worry about the bottles my water comes in.
So anyway, when I had a chance to try a new water that claims to have added benefits, not flavoring, but health benefits, such as correct alkalinity and pH balance, Electrolyte infusion, and Ionic separation, I was down for it even if I did not understand why we needed all of that, or if it made a difference.
Before I go on however, I want to share information from the water company themselves, Essentia Water.
+ Hydrate + Restore + Balance
The core technology responsible for creating Essentia’s hydrating alkaline water was originally developed in Japan in the 1930s. Functional water was approved for medical therapeutics by Japan’s Ministry of Health and Rehabilitation in the 1960s. Essentia acquired the rights to use the proprietary technology in 1997. Essentia improved and refined the process for mass commercialization and bottling using a process called Ionic Separation Technology (IST ).
This improved technology results in ultra-pure, non-source dependent water, using a special electrolyte formula and electrolysis process to produce an ideal pH.
Alkalinity refers to the capacity of water for neutralizing an acid solution. pH is the measure of acidity or alkalinity of a solution, logarithmically from 0 to 14 with 7 being neutral.
Most bottled waters have a pH factor of 7.0, which is neutral. Most human bodies are relatively more acidic from an ideal pH of 7 due to factors like stress, diet and harmful environmental contaminants. Over time, a high level of acidity can result in a loss of bone density, muscle strength, and can also negatively impact critical organs such as the kidneys.
Consuming an optimally alkaline, high-pH water helps to neutralize the body’s ongoing acidic condition and restore it to a more balanced state. Conventional thinking in the health and wellness community is that disease and infection cannot live in an alkaline environment.
Purification: Municipally supplied water is taken through a process of microfiltration, reverse osmosis, and ultraviolet exposure to achieve a purity of 99.9 percent.
Electrolyte Infusion: Trace amounts of pure, food-grade alkaline minerals are infused into the purified water. This proprietary mineral blend includes potassium, magnesium, calcium and sodium bicarbonate. It simulates the electrolytes that occur naturally in the body.
Ionic Separation: Oxidized acidic water clusters are separated from the alkaline water clusters and then removed from the water. Alkaline mineral concentrations are increased in the optimally alkaline water pH of 9.5.
Essentia removes acidic water clusters and increases the alkaline earth minerals, resulting in an optimally higher pH of 9.5. Essentia’s IST allows for charged electrolytes, easy absorption and, therefore, optimal hydration.
Essentia has been shown in a clinical pilot study to contribute to rapid rehydration of firefighters under extreme physical exertion and harsh environmental conditions.
Purified Water: A calibrated pH meter must be used to properly test pure waters like Essentia. Calibration should be performed with at least two standard buffer solutions that span the range of pH values to be measured. For general purposes, buffers at pH 4 and pH 10 are acceptable.
Litmus papers or test strips will not provide accurate results for pure waters because the indicator or strip material actually changes the pH of the sample, especially in low ionic-strength waters. This means that small or trace amounts of acidic components are present, which, in low ionic-strength waters, manifests and actually lowers the sample pH.
