I am a sucker for novelty items as much as the next person, but maybe this isn’t so much novelty as necessity? You decide for yourself but I am rather loving my Kuuk Silicone Ice Ball Maker!
My husband and I have tried those whisky stones, and we just do not find that they work as well as they need to in order to keep your drink cold. Ice, is ice, but when it is a giant ice ball, not only is it fun but the ice melts slower and lasts a lot longer.
I accidently tested this theory just today before writing this review. I made myself the very glass of iced tea you are about to see in the photos below, drank about half of it, then my hubby and I went for a walk. We were gone about forty five minutes when I returned to a glass of non watered down tea with a giant ice ball still floating in it.
I first heard of, more so saw these ice balls one night when we were watching a show, probably CSI or NCIS or something like that. I know it was a crime show. In the show they were at a pool hall, and in place of one of the pool balls they had a an ice ball, just like these. At the time my husband and I both thought that they looked really cool, no pun intended. So when I was able to get some ice ball silicone molds in exchange for review I thought “sure why not!?”
Okay so let’s hear what the company has to say about the Kuuk Silicone Ice Ball Maker:
Slow melted ice balls won’t dilute your favorite Scotch.
A fraction of the cost of whisky stones and other ice makers.
High-grade silicone is easy to clean and makes removing the ice balls quick and easy.
Each unit makes four ice balls.
Twin pack saves you money.
Enhance your favorite spirits with this Kuuk ice balls twin pack. This value packed ice balls maker provides all the benefits of more expensive items, but in an affordable, reusable package. It’s also easy to use, so you don’t have to be a professional bar tender or whisky aficionado to enjoy cold, full bodied Scotch whisky every time.
Safe and durable silicone, these ice balls are crafted from durable, BPA-free silicone. This high grade material leaves no aftertaste in the ice, is dishwasher safe for easy clean up, and allows for easy removal of the ice balls once they’re frozen. Just pop them out and refill for next time.
Enhances natural flavors even if you aren’t a whisky expert, you probably know that adding a splash of water to fine Scotch helps unleash the full spectrum of flavors held within. Ice, on the other hand, usually dilutes these nuanced tasting profiles, making it less than ideal for those who want to fully experience their spirits. These ice balls are slow melting, so you enjoy the same full bodied flavor profile, but without the usual diluting effects of ice cubes. Suitable for even fine Scotch whiskies, and provides that perfect chill to tone down spirits with more of a bite, without affecting the taste.
Affordable option – These ice balls offer the same benefits of pricier whisky stones, but without the high price tag. And since you can make them again and again, you get unlimited ice balls for the same low price. This makes them especially useful for those on a budget, or those who only drink Scotch occasionally.
Guaranteed quality – Our ice balls come with a lifetime warranty, so you can rest assured that you’re getting the highest level of quality available. If you aren’t happy for any reason, just send them back.
Okay I don’t know about Scotch, but I do enjoy a small glass of Bourbon now and then, but these work with anything you enjoy sipping on – alcohol or not!

Okay so now let’s talk about the process of making the ice balls. When you get the silicone molds, give them a wash obviously, but really other than that you are good to go. Put the top and bottom together, they will not snap together, so don’t expect a tight fit, that just is not how they are made, and while that did irritate my husband some, the molds work fine the way they are. After you put them together, fill the molds with water through the hole in the top. Keep the section with the hole upright, then place in the freezer.
Remarkably they do not take forever to freeze as I thought they would. A couple of hours give or take, as I honestly did not time them, but I have stock piled about 20 ice balls now to use when company comes over. One ice ball can chill at least two drinks as long as there is active drinking going on, meaning you do not have to use a brand new ice ball for each new pour.
