Ladies I love my coffee. I have brewed coffee using just about every method I could think or or learn about. For years I used an Irbik, a traditional Turkish coffee maker, then I switched to a Chemex. Finally I began using a French Press, all methods have their benefits, and I love them all.
I own a small french press to brew one cup at a time, as I am really the only coffee drinker in the family. Sometimes my daughter will have a cup, but that is only on a rare occasion. Every great now and then, however, I have company over, and it is nice to be able to offer guests a good cup of coffee, so when I was able to review the 34 ounce Francois et Mimi Vintage Double Wall French Coffee Press I was excited! This gave me the chance to test drive a french press that provides enough coffee for myself and my friends.
I was unsure of a few things before the french press arrived. For one thing I was worried about quality. My smaller french press is a very high quality, and quite expensive model. I was also concerned about the double wall. Granted it says in the item description that it is in fact double wall, but I have seen some pretty cheaply made double wall presses before. The last thing I was concerned about was the attachment of the handle to the press itself. Cosmetically I would prefer that it be soldered rather than screwed on.
So before I show my photos and go into my review let’s see a little more information from Francois et Mimi:

And now for my photos and opinion:
Solid Double Wall Construction, Quality Plunger Apparatus, Nicely Boxed for Gift Giving
In the photo above you can see the thick, sturdy double wall construction. The plunger apparatus is exactly like my much more expensive, and smaller french press. The pour spout is nice and the top has a curve in it to allow for plenty of flow in the pour.
Also the box is nice for gift giving, not just your typical brown cardboard box, although it did arrive shipped in another cardboard box for protection.
Super Large Size 34 Ounce, Top Stays on Well While Pouring.
In the photo above you can get an idea of just how large this french press is when you see it in my dish strainer. I also noticed that the top stays on well while pouring, with my other french press you have to hold the lid on or it can slip off.
I also love the design of this press, it has that vintage look with its decorative handle. I still do wish that the handle was soldered on rather than the screw that is used, but it does not impede on the overall quality of the brew obviously, just sort of takes away from the beautiful design. You can see the screw better in the photo below (left side photo). This however is my only “complaint” about the product.
Letter from Francois et Mimi Proves They Care!
Not often do I get a letter from a company so strongly asking for my HONEST and UNBIASED review! I think we all know companies want excellent reviews, some will even be pretty strong in that they want only perfect reviews. As most of you know, I don’t bother reviewing items I do not personally care for. I don’t have the time, nor do you need to waste your time reading about inferior product. I was just very happy to see a company that actually asks for an honest review in their letter that comes with the product.
In the upper left photo you can see that screw by the handle I was referring to. Again it’s not a big deal, but that is one small area, and the only area I see improvement could be made with this product.
Then in the lower right you can see the Francois et Mimi Vintage Double Wall French Coffee Presssitting by it’s sister product, the Francois et Mimi Stainless Steel Bread Box, which I also reviewed here.
Francois et Mimi puts out some pretty solid products. I would recommend anything they make and love both my bread box, and the french press. Check them out if you are in the market for any of these items. They also carry a lot of other kitchen related items as well, I am very interested in a lot of them for my own home.
Here is my youtube video featuring the press:
