Beauty Tag

I have been Tagged by Suzanne Miller of Laughing Scholar! Be sure to check out her Beauty Tag post

This is a beauty tag where I answer 20 beauty questions relating to my makeup/skincare routine. I then have to tag other bloggers to do the same.

Its a fun way for us bloggers to share with our readers and make each other think.

Beauty Tag Fashion Beyond Forty

Here are the questions I have to answer and my answers:

Do you remember your first makeup item?

I think it was probably Lip Smackers lip gloss! I just thought about that upon being asked in this tag, and it brings back such fun memories. Was it gloss or a flavored chap stick like product or both? I think it was both actually. Anyone else remember them?

Describe your perfect mascara. Have you found one
that fits your specifications?
I have several favorites I love They're Real by Benefit and I also love Envy Derm's mascara. Envy Derm gives me a very natural carefree look but without any clumps, and easy use, while They're real is more of a POW effect and glamourous. Both are excellent brands.

What kind of coverage do you prefer from foundation?
I will only use a mineral foundation and for years have used BareEssentials / BareMinerals powder foundation. I like a good coverage but it has to be natural and has to be a mineral based powder. I would try other brands if they wanted to send me some, but I won't spend my money on another brand since I am happy with this one.

Favorite high end brand?
Oh wow this is a really difficult question for me to answer. I mean what exactly IS "high end" do we mean expensive? Well advertised and marketed so they get to charge more? I have many loves that are more expensive, and many loves that you can get at your general store. What is high end to one may be mid range to another person. I am going to avoid answering this question haha!

What cosmetic brands have you always wanted to try but still haven’t?
I would love to try YSL's Lipsticks but at 35.00 for one lippie I just can't do it! If I needed more lipstick MAYBE but still, just no! For that price it would have to do my dishes too!

Favorite drugstore brand?
I really love Physician's Formula makeup! Their eye shadow palettes are amazing!

Do you wear fake eyelashes?
No they scare me! LOL I would need someone to teach me how to apply them and with my eyesight I would NEED my glasses on to do it! I could not even put them on myself with a magnifying mirror my sight is that poor! I would look ridiculous! How do you put on fake eyelashes with glasses on anyway?

Is there any kind of makeup you can't leave the house without?
I need something on my lips! At least a good lip balm, but without some hint of color I feel naked! Oh and mascara is a must too, even if just a light swipe of color.

What is your most cherished beauty product?
Rusk Texture Spray! This stuff is a lifesaver! I adore this product and can't do without it daily! Wether I curl, straighten, airdry, blow dry, whatever the case I use a little of this for volume, and to keep my style in place. Adore it!

How often do you shop for makeup?
I surf the web daily looking for new product, keeping up on whats out there, and making my list of "must try's". Anytime I go to a store of any kind if I have time I look through the makeup section just to see what's out there, again keeping up on things.

Do you have a “beauty budget” or you spend freely?
Well, neither really. Right now I am on a buying hiatus! I need to use more of what I have as makeup does NOT last forever even if it is not empty. There is a self life on the stuff plus I just need to catch up on bills like anyone else at times. So, no budget, and no free spending.

What type of product do you buy the most of?
I think this goes in phases. I get addicted to lippies and focus on them for awhile, then I get caught up with eye colors. For awhile it was eyeliners as I wanted to experiment with different colors. As a rule though, lippies for sure.

Do you avoid certain ingredients in cosmetics like parabens or sulfates?
I prefer natural products that are cruelty free, and do not have all the additives and I appreciate all views on the subject but I don't freak out if something I want to try has them in it.

Do you have a favorite place to shop for makeup?
Sephora and Birchbox! I love all the samples and extras I get as a Birchbox Rouge member and all the points I get and can spend as a Birchbox Ace member!

Do you like trying new skincare products or do you keep a certain routine?
I have a daily / nightly routine but I am not terribly loyal to just one brand or line of any one product. I do love BareMinerals as a rule but due to reviewing I am always trying new things. When I really love something you see me blog about it or mention it in a post such as a toner I recently received in a GlossyBox shipment!

Favorite bath and body brand?
I can't narrow it down to just one but I do love L'Occitane and I can't live without my Eco Armour Shave Gel, I am loving Rituals products lately, so yeah lol I like a lot of bath and body items.

Do you like multifunctional products like lip and cheek stains?
Sure, I think they are pretty cool, easy to toss one product in a bag, or stuff in a pocket for an on the go touch up. I like them especially if I am traveling light, or carrying a small clutch, or going without a bag at all.

Are you clumsy in putting makeup?
LOL yes. I love makeup, and I enjoy the process of putting it on but honestly I just do not have the time most days to fuss about it. On regular days, when not trying something new, or reviewing a product, I slap things on in light speed! I can be bare faced to finished in less than ten minutes! I am terrible with my eyes especially though. Being poor sighted, it can be a challenge to get eyeliners and mascara on the way I would like. On regular days this is not a problem as I have a simple method of applying these items, but when I want to try a new effect, or am learning a new application method, I am quite clumsy! I could keep QTip in business!

Do you ever consider taking makeup classes?
Not really. While I am sure there are many new methods and techniques to learn I used to teach makeup application "back in the day" and I just don't want to spend money on something I can find on YouTube!

What do you love about makeup?
Its pretty! Disclosure, I went about five years without wearing makeup, hardly ever! I would apply a little here and there for special occasions but somewhere in the 90's I got burnt out on make up after living through the 80's where I wore tons of it. After that makeup sabbatical I was back in full force! Something about our world history speaks to me. The ancient Egyptians and their love of face color, the way makeup was first made out of berries and such. Women, and men, have painted their faces for years, its intriguing!

I will be tagging fellow bloggers on Google + so we can keep this train rolling on Beauty Tag!

I love comments! Please join in discussion, ask questions, or leave tips for other readers. Comments truly are the driving force behind any blog as it helps the blogger to know what you, the reader want to see more of!
