In an earlier post I asked and answered the question – Do You Need Lip Primer. Today I am asking and answering if you need an Eye Shadow Primer.
Again, just like with Lip Primer, it is totally up to you, how you feel about the performance of your eyeshadow without a primer, and what outcome you want out of your eyeshadow. For me, sometimes the answer is yes, absolutely, and other times, not so much.
Even with the best quality of eye shadow, an eyeshadow primer can help your color “pop” and help with the longevity of your shadow.
On the other hand, if you have no issue with the longevity or color pop of your current shadows, then by all means, spare yourself the expense. However, like with many things in life, you don’t really know what you are missing if you have never tired it!
I use (at this time anyway) Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion.

I am not affiliated with this product, it is simply just what I use right now. I can’t say it is the best, but I can say that I notice a difference when I use it.
I purchased mine at Sephora.
Now with some shadows, especially with pigments, I find not using a primer is better, but only because I find the pigments do not spread as well, or as evenly with a primer. Maybe it is just me, but that is what I have experienced. With regular shadows however, a primer really helps provide a smooth canvas, just like I talked about in my Lip Primer article.
So again, do you “need” an eyeshadow primer? No. But should you have one in your makeup arsenal? Absolutely! I feel it is a worthy investment, especially for those days where you won’t have a break between work and a special evening out! There is no reason to have to freshen up eyeshadow if you have a good eyeshadow primer. Also I do love the way it makes most regular eyeshadow spread so evenly on the eyelid.
So there you have it. What has your experience been with eyeshadow primer? Do you use it? If so do you have a favorite brand I may want to try? Leave your comments below please.
