My Makeup Must Have's

Every woman who loves her makeup has those items she just can't do without. These are mine.
All of these items are available at Sephora.

These are my makeup favorites only, I also have an entire skin care and hair care regimen that I will save for another post.

I absolutely love Smashbox Photo Finish Primer. So far this has been my favorite primer due to the consistency of it, the feel as it glides over the skin, and the wonderful base it provides for my makeup. I truly believe this is one of the reasons why people say my completion looks so good, as it provides the perfectly smooth palette for the rest of my paint!

Dr. Jart Black Label BB Cream is next in the line up. I use this often with no foundation on top as it is the perfect all natural look or gives an added boost to the foundation itself, depending on what look I am going for that day. More often than not, I just apply my Dr. Jart and I am good to go!

When I do use a foundation I opt for a powdered mineral foundation. BareMinerals Foundation comes in both Original and Matte has been my favorite for years now. It is the only foundation I will use. One container lasts me a very long time as you need not use much powder to cover your whole face leaving a perfect even complexion.

One of the newer items to my must have line up is Benefit Gimme Brow. I have no idea how I lived without it before! Its not just a way to fill in sparse brows, because not everyone has sparse brows, but it can also work to shape them. It is also forgiving when you tweeze too much in one area, allowing you to fill in and create a perfect arch! Stand out brows are "in" right now and this product is amazing to really accentuate the brow.

Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer is another new to me product but now that I have tried it I see the light! Shadows last longer, pigments stand out and really pop, there is no more creasing, and application is far smoother. This is a must have in my regular line up.

Another must have from Urban Decay is their Naked Palettes. Pictured you see the Naked 2 Palette but there are others. The link above will take you to all of them. Now I will say, if you are on a budget I have also recently found similar palettes by Coastal Scents and they are also very good! I have reviewed them as well. They are called Revealed and Revealed 2 which you can find on their site linked above. These palettes offer wonderfully pigmented colors in neutral tones, both shimmery and matte for a great look anyway. I love them and reach for them ninety percent of the time I apply eye shadow, which is daily.

Eyeliners are another item I use daily and while there are many you can buy I stick with my old standby which is Sephora's brand. Its a basic Contour Eye Pencil 12 Hour Wear Waterproof Eyeliner.  This comes in twenty five different colors and at only ten dollars per eyeliner I can afford to have a variety of colors in my makeup stash. Application is smooth, easy to blend.

My all time favorite, can not live without mascara is Benefit They're Real mascara. This is the all time best mascara and may people agree with me! Now before you go checking out that first link check this second one out because Benefit has put out a nifty little set that also includes a couple bonus items! This is called The Real Steal and personally I agree that it is considering for the same price as the larger mascara you can also get a deluxe sized sample of their new Push Up Eyeliner and a remover sample packet! I grabbed one even though I did not need more mascara yet because I know I will use it and I really wanted to try that new eyeliner and hey a sample of a remover can't hurt since I am not totally wowed by my current eye makeup remover.

I love blush, and honestly, I only have about five blush in my stash right now, and only two that I love. This is my favorite blush and not just due to the color, which is perfect for my skin tone, but the application is so smooth, the staying power amazing, and the packaging is totally cute! I thought that after a little use the pretty floral design in the blush would disappear but after months of use I can still see the pretty flower etched into the blush. Its called Clinque Cheek Pop and comes in four lovely shades. Right now I only have Ginger Pop but I want to get them all! If I had all of them I would not need anymore blush for a long time to come.

Now as you scroll down reading, you are going to see an onslaught of lippies! Why so many? Because you can never have too many lippies! While I would never do my makeup without doing my eyes, lipstick, gloss, stain, anything for the lips is just a MUST. There are basically two things I personally can not leave the house without and that is earrings and lipstick! I just feel naked without them. I have at any given time over five lippies in my bag. I have to always have a natural or clear close, a blame for chapped lips, and a couple of different colors of stain, or cream lipstick. I am not the biggest fan of shimmery lip color, but I also do have a few of them just in case.

So lets go through my lippy must haves ...

I do not need as many lip liners as I do colors and some of my colors do double duty as a liner as well which is another reason I love them, however it is good to have liners, especially for those more powerful colors, like deep red, super hot pink, or anything that could stray from the boundaries and bleed, or end up on your teeth! Liners help to define the boundary of your lips, give a more clean, professional look, and contour those areas of your lip where it is difficult to tell where things begin and where they end. They also make your lips POP! I only buy Laura Mercier Lip Pencil.  This brand lasts all day long, does not dry out, does not bleed, and stays put. It is also super smooth to apply. I just love it!

My absolute favorite of all time lippy is the Buxom Full On Lip Stick When applied it has this cool tingly sensation, and gives a lip plumping effect that is super sexy! The colors are amazing too! What I love most about this lip stick is that the tip is narrow at the top and can do double time as a liner even though it does not line as perfectly as Laura Mercier, it does a good job of setting your baseline for the application of the lip stick everywhere else and does define your lips. It also has amazing staying power, and sets lighter on the lips than some heavier lip sticks.

Speaking of Buxom, another one of my favorites is also from the same line. It is Buxom Full Bodied Lipstick. The color line up is a bit more intense, more vivid, and daring even with colors called Swinger, Exhibitionist, Nudist, and such. With a satin finish, non sparkly, and a wonderful lip plumping effect I consider this lippy my Pin Up look lipstick. Love it!

I could not write this article without giving mention to my favorite new friend, the absolute perfect for me nude color. I recently wrote a post about finding my perfect nude and this is it!  Now my perfect nude won't necessarily be your perfect nude, but I suggest you at least give this one a try because I adore it!

Hourglass Opaque Rogue Liquid Lipstick is another somewhat new love for me. I got this as a deluxe sample item in one of my Sephora orders and wish I had opted to get the full size when it was only ten dollars! I got mine in the color Icon - a blue red and let me tell you if you are looking for a blue hued red lipstick this is the one you want! This works in many ways, it goes on smooth and glossy, then goes to more of a creamy look, ending up as a stain that lasts and lasts! Check out the reviews on this one if you are looking for a red color you can fall madly in love with. This is the color of all things love, sex, romance, valentine's day, its like cupid made this color himself! In LOVE with it!

Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment is what I reach for to hydrate my lips. It comes in colors but I always have the the color "sugar" which is un-tinted on hand. The colors are lovely too but I use my un-tinted version as a balm. It has a lot of healthy for your lips ingredients in it and also has a plumping action. Right now, on Sephora you can get this deal:

I also love the Bite Beauty Luminous Creme Lipstick Duo and have it on my wish list in the Neutral shades, as my daughter already has the Vivid shades and I just steal hers. I love the contrasting shades but do be careful with this item as it melts easily and is not good for "on the go" looks.

Too Faced has this incredible Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipstick that I just can't wait to get a full size of! I only got to test it but I want some! It is a stain, and when applied properly will last for days, literally, it is hard to get off entirely, but if you are needing a stain that will stick, this is it! This is a love it or hate it item it appears based on the reviews on Sephora, but I loved it when I got to try it. I am wanting to get it in many colors but will start with Melted Marshmallow simply because of the name, yes I am that silly.

And lastly, an item that I highly recommend, and is an absolute must have in my makeup collection, not a lip stick. Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder, not to be confused with a bronzer as it is so much more, but can be used as one in the right shade. It comes in six shades, from Ethereal Light to Radiant Light. The colors are not for different skin tones but for different effects you may desire.

Ethereal Light: A sheer, cool tone that eliminates shine and mimics a moonlit glow—even in broad daylight.
Diffused Light: A soft, warm, pale yellow that reduces redness, eliminates shine, and gives skin clarity.
Dim Light: A neutral soft beige that provides a perfect balance of warm and cool tones to blur imperfections.
Mood Light: A soft, sheer lavender pink that mimics the softest, most forgiving light and brightens the complexion.
Luminous Light: A champagne pearl that creates a soft, incandescent candlelit glow—day or night.
Radiant Light: A sun-kissed golden beige that enhances the overall complexion with believable, subtle warmth.

Now, if you are like me and just can't pick one, and can't justify spending on more than one get this Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette! It comes with Incandescent Light, Dim Light, and Radiant Light. I will admit, I still want to get a few of the other shades such as Mood Light, Ethereal Light, and Diffused Light. Uggg I want them ALL but this was a great place to start and now that I know how much I love them I can and will justify getting them all, eventually.
